Profile

Mustafizur Rahman is a left-arm pace bowler who came to Dhaka to try out for a fast-bowlers camp in 2012, after he had impressed in an Under-17 tournament in his hometown Satkhira. He was admitted to the BCB's pace foundation and soon caught the coaches' attention to make the Bangladesh Under-19 side for the 2014 World Cup. Mustafizur made his first-class debut for Khulna in the 2013-14 season and after taking eight wickets in the U-19 World Cup in UAE, he was surprisingly picked for Bangladesh A's tour of West Indies. Returning from that short trip, he was viewed as a better bowler and slowly picked up more variations. He initially lacked pace, but built it up through the 2014-15 first-class season, when he took 26 wickets at an average of 19.08. Soon enough, the Bangladesh selectors picked Mustafizur for the one-off T20I against Pakistan, where he removed Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez. Two months later, he was selected for the ODI series against India and became only the second bowler after Brian Vitori to take five-wicket hauls in his first two ODIs.

New Year, new books

The morning chill was compounded by a foggy haze all around. A countrywide hartal was also on to set the scene for a bleak day. Yet nothing could deter the school kids from rushing to their schools to receive the New Year gifts awaiting them.
No preparations were there to make a show of the programme. Yet the exuberance displayed by the kids turned every school ground into a veritable carnival.
Students of primary and secondary grades thus began the New Year with new textbooks in their hands, overcoming the fear of violence that every hartal entails.
It was sheer happiness writ large on their faces on getting the textbooks. Some held those up in the air with joy while some were flipping through the pages. The refreshing smell of new books hung in the air all around the schools.
This was just a glimpse of how the first day of the new academic session and the much-awaited "Textbook Festival Day" went all over the country yesterday as the government started distributing over 32.63 crore copies of textbooks to more than 4.44 crore students from class-I to class-IX.
The textbook distribution will continue for the next seven days. So the schools that are yet to start admitting new students will have to hand the new books over to their pupils within this period.
Of the total books, around 11.55 crore are for primary-level students, 14.82 crore for secondary-level students, 3.09 crore for Dakhil (secondary level of madrasa) and Dakhil vocational students, and 1.79 crore for ebtedai (primary level of madrasa) students.

'যে কোনো সময় চলে যেতে পারি।' খলিল ভাইয়ের এই কথাটা আমাকে কত রাত ঘুমাতে দেবে না সেটা বলতে পারছি না। মৃত্যুর তিনদিন আগে তিনি ফোন করেছিলেন। জানতে চেয়েছিলেন কেমন আছি? কী করছি? আমি যখন জানতে চাইলাম আপনি কেমন আছেন? তখনই এই কথাটা বলে আমার মনটাই খারাপ করে দিয়েছিলেন। এখন তিনি নেই। ভরাট কণ্ঠে আর কেউ ফোন করে জানতে চাইবে না আমি কেমন আছি? কী করছি? এটা মানতে পারছি না। মনের ব্যাথাটা লাঘব করার জন্য মাঝে-মধ্যে চিৎকার দিয়ে বলতে ইচ্ছা করে খলিল ভাই, আপনি ছাড়া ভালো থাকা যায় না।

খলিল ভাই ছিলেন আমার অভিভাবক। বয়সে আমার থেকে আট বছরের বড় হলেও তিনি নিজেকে কখনও বড় মনে করতেন না। তিনি যেমন আমার বন্ধু ছিলেন, তেমনি আমার দুই ছেলে বাপ্পা ও সম্রাটেরও বন্ধু ছিলেন। তার হঠাৎ চলে যাওয়ায় আমাদের পরিবারেও নেমে এসেছে শোকের ছায়া।
ষাটের দশকের মাঝামাঝি সময়ে আমি চলচ্চিত্রে অভিনয় শুরু করি। একই সময়ে খলিল ভাইও চলচ্চিত্রে আসেন। কিন্তু আমাদের আলাপ হয় আরও অনেক পরে। স্বাধীনতার পর ১৯৭২ সালে মজিবুর রহমান মজনুর 'গুণ্ডা' ছবিতে অভিনয় করতে গিয়ে খলিল ভাইয়ের সঙ্গে প্রথম পরিচয় হয়। প্রথম দেখাতেই তাকে অনেক আপন মনে হয়েছিল। মনে হয়েছিল এই জগতে একজন বড়ভাই পেয়ে গেছি। সেখান থেকেই বন্ধুত্বের শুরু। তারপর কখন যে সেটি পারিবারিক সম্পর্কে রূপ নেয় তা বলতে পারব না। তিনি সম্পর্কের ক্ষেত্রে এতটা ঘনিষ্ঠ যে, কোনো অনুষ্ঠান কিংবা উৎসবে তাকে ছাড়া কিছু ভাবতে পারতাম না। ঈদ উপলক্ষে আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করতে বাসায় এসেছিলেন, সবার খোঁজখবর নিয়েছেন। আমি অসুস্থ থাকাকালীন অভিভাবকের মতো আগলে রাখতেন আমাকে। যখন কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে পারতাম না, তখন তিনিই ছিলেন একমাত্র ভরসা। অসম্ভব যুক্তি দিয়ে তিনি যে কোনো বিষয়ের সমাধান করে দিতেন। শুধু আমি নই, চলচ্চিত্র অঙ্গনের সবার সঙ্গেই তার সম্পর্ক ছিল পরিবারের মতো। কারণ চলচ্চিত্র ছিল আমাদের আরেক পরিবার।
১৯৯৯ সালে আমার নির্দেশনায় 'সন্তান যখন শত্রু' ছবিতে শেষবারের মতো একসঙ্গে অভিনয় করি। ছবির সেটে সারাদিন তিনি আমাদের মাতিয়ে রাখতেন। আমার 'রাজলক্ষ্মী' প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে যত ছবি মুক্তি পেয়েছে, তার প্রতিটিতে অভিনয় করেছেন খলিল ভাই। এর অবশ্য আলাদা কারণও আছে। অভিনয়ের উসিলায় দু'জন কাছাকাছি থাকতে পারতাম। গল্প-গুজবে সময়টা পার হয়ে যেত, আবার কাজটাও সুন্দর হতো। ছবির বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে একজন আরেকজনের সঙ্গে কথা বলে আমরা সিদ্ধান্ত নিতাম।
আমাদের অভিনয় জীবনে মজার অনেক ঘটনা আছে। এর মধ্যে বিশেষভাবে 'বেঈমান' ছবির কথা বলতে হয়। ছবিতে তিনি আমার বাবার চরিত্রে অভিনয় করছিলেন। সেটে আমরা দু'জন এক জায়গায় হলেই সবাই হাসাহাসি শুরু করত। কারণ হাজার হোক প্রায় সমবয়সী তো! বাবার চরিত্র করতে গিয়ে তাকে একটু মুড নিতে হতো। কিন্তু যেই না মুডি মুডি ভাব, অমনি আমাকে দেখলে তার হাসি চলে আসত। 'বদনাম', 'প্রফেসর', 'অভিযান', 'প্রেমের নাম বেদনা'সহ অসংখ্য ছবির কথা মনে পড়ছে। এত স্মৃতি রেখে খলিল ভাই আমার আগে চলে যাবেন_ ভাবিনি! আমি ভাবিনি, কখনও তাকে নিয়ে আমাকে বলতে হবে বা লিখতে হবে। তিনি আমাদের একজন আদর্শ অভিনেতা ছিলেন। আমি চাই, তার অভিনীত সব ছবি যেন সরকারি পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় সংরক্ষণ করা হয়। কারণ পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের অনেক কিছু শেখার আছে এই গুণী অভিনেতার কাছ থেকে। দোয়া করি, ওপারে তার আত্মা যেন শান্তিতে থাকে। তিনি ভালো থাকুন। হ
